S.H.A.R.E. launches an international cardiology mission in Madagascar
Seeing Mauritanian doctors pass on their knowledge to their Malagasy colleagues today is the finest success of our model. This is exactly why we exist.
The Monegasque association S.H.A.R.E. (Sustainable Health in Africa through Responsible Education) announces the launch, from 21 September to 9 October 2026, of an international interventional cardiology mission called “Repairing Hearts”.
Carried out at the Institut Médical de Madagascar (IMM) in Antananarivo, this twenty-day mission follows an agreement signed with the IMM in 2025 and brings together a team of doctors from the National Cardiology Centre (CNC) in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The association is joining forces with the IMM and the CNC to treat indigent patients free of charge and to support Malagasy doctors and paramedical staff.
Why this mission
For more than fifteen years, S.H.A.R.E. has worked to reduce the impact of cardiovascular disease in sub-Saharan Africa. Our founding belief is simple: lasting health is not built through one-off assistance, but through training and the sharing of knowledge between caregivers.
This mission to Madagascar illustrates that model precisely. The CNC doctors from Nouakchott who join us were themselves trained by S.H.A.R.E. several years ago. They now return not as mere performers but as trainers, alongside their Malagasy colleagues. This pan-African transmission, one African country training another, is for our association the finest proof that our model works and endures.
Our mission in Madagascar
For twenty days, our team will work at the Institut Médical de Madagascar to:
- perform interventional cardiology procedures free of charge (coronary angiograms, angioplasties, percutaneous mitral dilations) for patients who have no access to this type of specialised care;
- train Malagasy doctors and paramedical staff in these techniques, alongside the Mauritanian cardiologists of the CNC in Nouakchott, themselves trained by S.H.A.R.E.;
- provide medical follow-up for young patients already treated thanks to the Monaco Collectif Humanitaire, to check how their health is progressing;
- assess the needs and achievements of the earlier observation phases, to best adapt our action to the realities of the Malagasy field;
- lay the first foundations of autonomous cardiovascular care, able in time to operate without outside support.
Our entire team, doctors, cardiologists and paramedical staff, works as volunteers, in their own time and without any pay. This unpaid commitment allows every patient treated during the mission to receive care entirely free of charge.
